De-stress and Refocus
This group incorporates yoga, creative arts, mindfulness and stress management strategies to teach participants new ways to understand anxiety, build awareness, improve their mood, and reduce their anxious distress. Understand how anxiety shows up in the body and why. Recognize the context of what we're feeling or thinking.
Graduate Student Group
A safe and supportive space for students to connect with peers, share experiences, and learn healthy coping skills for managing life while in graduate school. This group will explore a variety of topics such as stress management, work/life balance, relationships, and academic/career concerns. Students from all graduate programs and years of study welcome.
Students of Color Group
The goal of this in-person support group is to provide a safe space for UTC’s Students of Color to foster a sense of community, mutual support, empathy, and understanding while exploring shared experiences of social/psychological issues related to race/ethnicity such as colorism, color blindness, microaggressions, prejudice, discrimination, and internalized racism.
Healthy Relationship Group
Students will have the opportunity to identify language and behaviors that characterize healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships. They will learn verbal and nonverbal responses to these types of relationships. The goal of this group is to educate and empower students to increase awareness, self-control, knowledge, and determination to bring about self-care, safety, and self-preservation. The relationships addressed will include family, friends, peers, faculty, coworkers, romantic partners, employers, and strangers.
Grief and Loss Group
A safe and brave place for those who have suffered the death of a loved one recently or some time ago. Grief is a journey with detours, stops, and starts, and the journey for each person is unique. This group will remind students that they are not alone in this journey and aims to help them learn about grief and effective ways to cope; find comfort and encouragement in sharing their stories with others; and discover personal growth and meaning in the grief process.
Students Impacted by Addiction Support Group
This group is for any student who is the child, sibling, partner, friend, or other loved one of someone who struggles with/ has struggled with substance use or other addiction. Students will work together to learn emotional self-management, boundary setting, effective communication and other ways to address the impact of their loved one’s addiction on their lives.
