The Akindi Importer is available and supported as the newest addition to our assessment tool suite within [email protected] (Canvas). The Akindi Importer is particularly useful for faculty who wish to create large question banks and/or individual quizzes efficiently and quickly. The importer will automatically detect and convert your Microsoft Word questions into a QTI file which can be imported back into the course.
Unlike Respondus 4.0, Akindi Importer is available to all faculty regardless of their computer's operating system as it operates within your web browser.
Launching Akindi Importer
In your course navigation menu, select the Launch Akindi link.
Click the Launch Importer button.
Uploading Test Questions
Akindi Importer will only accept .docx files, however we provide a lot of flexibility when it comes to formatting within the document. Review the formatting outlines below for details:
- Formatting questions in Microsoft Word and available question types (Links to an external site.)
- How should I set answers in my Word document to be read by the Akindi importer? (Links to an external site.)
Click within the 'Upload' box or drag and drop your .docx file into the box. Akindi will then begin the process of uploading your file.
Once uploaded, you'll see the contents of your test questions displayed in Akindi.
Reviewing the contents
Scroll to review each question, to ensure Akindi has imported and is displaying the question and answer content as it appears in your .docx file.
The correct answer is indicated in Akindi by the highlighted cell for multiple choice questions, the text displayed in the answer box for open-ended questions, and the text displayed for Fill in the Blank or Matching questions. You can edit the answer key in Akindi for any of these question types.
Double click into any text, table or image to edit it. Changes will be automatically saved on the page.
Downloading the QTI file
Click the Download QTI dropdown menu and select Canvas. A modal will appear, where you'll have the option to download the file once it's ready.
